Making Fire Boots

Postby Lyonsperf on Wed Jan 28, 2015 6:48 pm

I need to make 12 pairs of 1/25 scale boots for the rig i'm building. I purchased two pair of Don Mills boots in pewter but they don't look authentic. Basically look like a cowboy boot. So I modified the pewter castings with a file to add tread to the sole of the boot and make it more round toed.

I would like to use these to make a mold to produce black rubber boots. What should I use to make the mold? I was thinking of using Black RTV to make the boots, possibly gray RTV first for the soles and black for the uppers. Just trying to figure out what the mold material should be.

You first need to make a two part mold of RTV. Then cast the boots in the mold using ordinary casting resin. Don't bother with the colors. You can paint them afterwards. Lot less trouble than trying to make separate colored molds. Micro Mark carries all of the stuff you would need. Don't forget mold release material. Two part molds don't come apart without it.
