A word to the wise

Postby chariots of fire on Sat Nov 05, 2011 2:12 pm

A couple of days ago we had a significant structure fire in a wood frame balloon style three floor rental. Among the apparatus at the scene was a 1985 Emergency One 105' aerial device. It has an electric cord reel attached to the deck. Somehow the cord reel shorted out energizing the aerial. A fire fighter at the ladder tip touched the aluminum siding of the building and got an immediate shock. Fortunately he is ok and was only in the hospital for overnite observation.
When I find out more regarding the electric reel I'll post the info. I'm just glad that it was not raining when that happened. Might have been a different story.

Nasty. We have a couple of engines that have generator powered scene lights on the truck, we found out that if the generators are not grounded with a jumper cable the light poles would nail you.

Glad to hear he wasn't seriously injured, sounds like he had his lucky charm with him.
