American LaFrance has closed.

Postby traumahawk05 on Tue Jan 21, 2014 11:43 pm

As of Friday, January 17th, American LaFrance has closed its warehouse, production, and service facility doors and is currently looking to establish a third-party distributer warranty and replacement parts. The facilities include Monks Corner, SC; Ephrata, PA; and Los Angeles.

I wonder what this means for the future of the Trumpeter and AMT ALF kits? Will they ever be re-released?

Well, Since the AMT kits are of 1000 series rigs, which have not been manufactured in
20-30 years, I would say, that Yes, The AMT kits will continue to be re-issued occasionally
IF they sell when issued that is!!

I have No idea if Trumpeter ever re-issues a kit.
But, Since that is a Fairly New and Current model, I would not be surprised to see it out again too
I bet we see the real ones for 20-30 years in service like the 1000's were!!

The problem with reissuing kits on defunct manufacturers if who owns the copyright to the name (like Diamond REO or White). So, the reissue of the American-LaFrance kits will come down to who actually owns the name, & who gets paid for Round2 or Trumpeter using the name.
