Mack CF Pumper-Tanker & Tanker-Pumper Projects

Postby EdselDan on Tue Mar 28, 2017 2:43 pm

OK, As seen in the 'Parts Bay' thread, I have a few new MACK CF Projects started
Here is A Quick view of them.
This Tanker-Pumper is basically at the point in the 2 pics.
Though I have Started on altering the Springs for the Tandem Rears
Image

I am not sure on fitting the front of the tank but planned on having it Overlap the Pump Compartment
where it is taller, and simulating that it extends into the compartment below the Reel lines

I was hoping to adapt the Monogram Tank Trailer to fit, But...
I Am still looking at using the Ladder from that kit for Fill cover access
IF it is long enough to fit all the way down to the Tail-board!

Image

This is the Tanker Chassis, but Both are done Identically
2 Kit Chassis Spliced together with a Scale 4 foot center to center axle spacing

Here is a First look at the Pumper-Tanker
Image

Yes the Upper segment is a Third Pump Body!
I did have to replace the Wheel Well with compartment doors
And, Yes, I Do have another segment ALMOST ready to glue in place
to complete the Tank/hose bed area
I just need to let the plastic Harden where I cut off the Hard-Suction Trays,
Smoothed the Sheet Metal, And filled in gouges.

I am not sure what to put there though so I don't have a Blank panel
1 or 2 Axe??
a Hose roll??
Another Compartment??

On the Right side I can add a longer ladder!!!

I would like to know if any of these type Pumper-Tankers came with the
Pump Compartment left at standard size, Height?
or were all Extended to the Hose bed height???

I know the Leetown/Alloy Forms Pierce Pumper-Tanker has the Pump Compartment Raised
But that makes the Booster Reel line slightly out of reach!!
That is My Justification on Not raising them here.
Not to mention The work needed to Alter the Pump panel!!
Add or remove Intakes & Discharges, moving handles, etc!!

Image

Here at the Tail Board area you can see Two sets of Tail Lights
1 pair will be Amber Turn Signal/4way flashers
the other 1 extra pair can be Alternating Red flahers

Here is a Comparison of the Pumper-Tanker and a Standard Kit Pumper body
This one Will be a Nice size rig!!!

The problem with a Hurst tool or "Jaws" is NO kit has that
and I do not hat blueprints to attempt to scratch-build one

Worse, No $$$ to buy a set from Shapeways, diecast, or Resin!!!!

I am looking at a Dump Valve for the rear on both rigs
But, Upper compartment door area or lower on Pumper based Tanker????

I'll bet if you go on line and type in "Hurst Tool Images" you will get enough information that you could use to scratch build a tool. Doesn't have to be fancy but with just enough of the detail to suggest what it is.

Have 5 New Pics ready of the Pumper-Tanker
First the added forward Tank/Hose bed section
Image

I have a Small secondary door read to fill the upper compartment
where you see still the hard-suction trays behind the door

And I have an idea on what to do above the Booster Reels
An Open Frame-work supported Deluge Gun!!
I will add a Tread-Plate panel to the front of the finished upper body,
AND an extended one (WITH Access door(s) to the front pump panel.
Then add Tubing (Likely 2 Up from the Pump to the gun between the 2 Booster reels.
and Evergreen Strip stock, Angle, I or C Beam frame work to create a "Floor" for the gun
(Uprights too)

The Tandem Rear springs are ready for Both rigs now
Image

Not the best, but Does give you the idea
Image

Just remove 1 Mount from 2 Spring, Remembering to do 1 Forward Spring, & 1 rearward,
then modify one of the 2 removed mounts to accept the springs, AND fit the smaller mount hole
You will also need to remove about 1/16 of an inch off each spring for them to fit

Some New pics of the Pumper-Tanker
This Front Corner shot shows Both Tread-Plate panels
in Front of the Hose Bed, & Booster Reels
You can also see the 2 slam-lock handles allowing access to the Cross-lays
for take-up
Image

This More Straight on forward picture shows that the "Grill" has been Inset for a more Flush look
And the holes where the Electric Sirens will now mount
I need to take a New pic of this area as the Air Horns are also now Bumper mounted.
Image

This Left side shot shows the completed tank/hose bed body work Less the Partial door for the upper forward compartment
Those have been added
Image

I am still looking at smaller hand tools mounted to the blank area forward of the kit Hard-Suction hoses
Axe, Sledge, etc

I am looking at a Single section longer ladder on the right side with a Portable tank inside against the body
BUT............
Where can I find one, Or at least plans to Attempt to replicate one????

I do have a second Rear Tread-Plate section ready to mount, but was still doing body work in that area

Here's what I did when I needed a folding tank. The frame is brass tubing and the "canvas" tank is some OD colored cloth I found in a fabric store.
Image

Image
Small brass hinges were soldered to the ends of the tubing so that the tank would fold. The tank is held against the brass frame with thread. (not waterproof though! )

Great work and looking forward to viewing the finished trucks.

If it's not broken, then don't try to fix it. If it is broken then only one tool and aids are required: A hammer if it's tight and Blu-Tack if it's loose.

A very nice looking model Charlie. The folding tank is well detailed and realistic.

Not close to those in my area
Most I have seen are Yellow!!!
Look like Large Kiddy Pools!!
NOT very flattering though!!
BUT, They do get the job done

Lately they have not used the Dump tanks,
but keep a Nurse tanker on site, and draft from that

Finally got a Tank started for the Tanker-Pu,per
Going the "Paper-Model" route with Formers and frame work that will be skinned

URL=http://s145.photobucket.com/user/EdselDan/media/Fire%20Department/32%20scale%20Fire%20Department/New%20MACK%20Projects/Tanker-1_zpsl2mao7t1.jpg.html]Image[/URL]

This rear shot shows 6 Outer Frame bars (.08x.125) AND 4 rod/tube center frame spars 3/32 tube
I know the tank is Not 100% perfect, but is Extremely Close!!
I made 8 Oval/Elipitcal frame sections, then flipped a few 180 degrees in either Horizontal or vertical
orientation from start.
This way I found areas in ALL direction that were cut short
Added and filed material result in the ellipse seen here

Image

Here is the frame outside of the rig
The step seen at the bottom of the first former is due to a re-enforcing rib added between the
compartment box/fenders behind the pump panel
I had to add material to this area due to flexing with all the Hose body removed

Image

Here is the Skin that will be added
It is Aluminum Flashing already rolled into a tube
I have it wound tighter to reduce the diameter to get a better fit
I found 'Aluminum Contact paper, but believe this will have better strength
It will not deform into the gaps when handled!!

Image

There are 10 new pictures of this rig, I have also added the drive shaft between the tandem rear axles, And working steering
I Still need to finish that Tutorial!!!!
The album is here

I've heard some real stories about Photobucket and them going wild for using their services. I paid about $15 last year to get rid of the ads and it has been working ok. I can't see you pics because it says Photobucket has to be updated.

Mine are now "Held Hostage"
I MUST Buy their $500.oo Plan for 3rd Party Hosting

as I do NOT have $500.oo even to replace or restore my car
I will NOT be 'Updating" my Photobucket
I have NO need to Download as I have the masters/originals of all pics posted there

Model Cars Mag Forum now has Unlimited hosting so I will be posting my Pa\ics there directly

Here I need a Host site to link them from

I have an OLD flickr account
IF still there and not closed due to lack of use
I have also heard of many preferring fotki
and I have the site I linked to above

All I ask is it MUST be a FREE account that I use
There is NO $$$$ available for anything like this!!!!

Even all my Software is gotten Free from sites like GiveawayOfTheDay, SharewareOnSale and BitsDuJour

I am Not yet at the point I was last year at this time
BUT, I am NOT very far from that point
I might again be having a "Collection Thin Out" sale
HOPE not, but.............
House, Food, etc MUST come first!!!!!

I have to come to the Library for Internet
I do Not even have telephone at home!!!!!!!
I AM Trying to see is Verizon still offers Land-Line in my area!!!
Looking for the CHEAPEST connection that can include internet
Land-Line + DSL would be WONDERFUL at home!!!!

I have heard that situation over on diecastxchange, which makes me glad I don't use photobucket. I am finding imgur to be very useful, and you can share the photos to their gallery for fake internet points :D
