Iveco-Magirus DLK 23-12 Ladder Truck

Postby jimb on Thu Jan 23, 2014 10:53 am

I've been working on this one (on & off) for a while now, and I figured it was time to upload some WIP pics. So far the kit has been quite nice. This is my first Italeri kit, and it really has gone together quite well. Still not a big fan of the multi-piece cab, though.

Here is the look I'm going for:

Apparently, the kit is an earlier version of the IVECO 190 26, but since the kit is Italian (Italeri), IVECO is Italian, and I'm part Italian; I figured that Vigili del Fuoco was an obvious choice.

Here are a couple of shots of the frame & the (I think) Deutz F6L engine:

I didn't have any good references for the interior of Vigili del Fuoco vehicles from the 1980s, so I went with what Italeri suggested:

And a couple of shots of the body in primer. It will eventually be Testors Model Masters Italian Red (seems logical):

Well, there you have it. Any suggestions are, of course, welcome; and I'll keep you up to date as I progress.

I've been trying to paint the cab over the last few days, but that ridiculous red plastic keeps turning the white stripe a slight pink!! :x :x The cab is in the purple pond, and we'll try again this weekend.

Undercoat the stripe Silver!!
Or use Future.
Or, if you can, Use decals or even Pinstripe tape, for the white stripe.

I tried undercoating it with a flat tan as recommended by someone else, buy that didn't work out so well. I'll try the silver & see how that goes. I had thought about decal stripes as well; hadn't thought of pinstripe tape, though. That might work best. Thanks for the advice.

Looks good Jim. I have two of those Italeri kits but have never actually built one. How do they go together?

Nice job, The kits are well done even when you modify the heck out of it

Stars at night. You see them due to the light traveling from them. What you see is the stars past. If you are seeing a star that's 6,000 yrs ago. Imagine somebody on that star looking at us. They'd be seeing us as 6,000 yrs ago. Which of those two is now?

Thanks, Charlie,

The kit went together quite nicely. I had some trouble with the multi-piece cab, but mostly due to inexperience with them. From other Italeri builds I've seen, it's pretty typical. Fine details; and small, fragile parts with large sprue attachment points.
