How, errr, Where I spent my summer

Postby Aaronw on Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:36 am

I spent 6 weeks in the far northwestern corner of California in the communities of Orleans and Happy Camp, CA. This part of the world is best known for one of its more elusive residents, a Mr Foot... Big Foot. The area boasts of having more big foot sightings than anywhere else in the US.

The portion of California Highway 96 that connects these two towns is officially recognized by these signs. :D

The famous 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film catching a glimpse of bigfoot crossing a clearing was allegedly shot just a few miles from where fire camp was located in Orleans.

Mr Foot did not show himself to me during my stay, but I think did I see his truck.

Looks like "Big Foot" could use a bit of TLC! :)

Always wanted to go there. I was fortunate enough to visit Fauke, Arkansas the location of the movie The
legend of Boggy Creek this past August and drove out to the homestead location where the family in the movie was attacked. i didn't see Mr. Foot either. :(

I remember that movie, scared the heck out of me as a kid.

If you ever get out to that part of California, Willow Creek has a Bigfoot museum.

Orleans is just a blip on the map but Willow Creek and Happy Camp are small towns and each have their own bigfoot festivities around Labor day. Willow Creek has Bigfoot days with an ice cream social (not sure what that is but they have my attention with ice cream), Happy Camp has a Bigfoot Jamboree. Both towns have a bigfoot statue, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to get a photo of either one.
