Shapeways store

Postby mdlbldrmatt135 on Thu Nov 20, 2014 10:32 am

Guys,

I do 3D cad work for a living..... well I started making some parts up to have printed. I decided to open a store on Shapeways.

https://www.shapeways.com/shops/DownRangeProductions1-35th-scale

I have some 1/24 scale NAR spine boards as well as some 1/24 scale U-joints for drive line scratchbuilding/detailing.

I'm open to more Ideas for models you might be interested in purchasing. (If anything I have in 1/35 scale is of interest I can do it in 1/24 or other scales as well.

Thanks!!!

Matt

I had a profile & it went inactive when the site bug happened... I hope posting this is OK without the 25 posts... Apologies if it isn't. - The sales are completely handled by Shapeways & I only see any profit from them after $30 or 90 days - whichever is first.

Awesome stuff Matt! Can the backboards be separated or are they molded together? Can think of several great ideas for future projects like couplings, elbows, valves, etc. Perhaps even spanner/hydrant wrench mount and old school Stokes basket. Thanks!

The backboards are printed close together to save $$$ I'll see what I can find on the tools and whatnot. The min thickness that can be printed is .3mm or .5mm with the "finer" materials the colored stuff is only 1mm.

Edit:

I found http://www.akronbrass.com/ has CAD models for some of the stuff they sell..........

Some other stuff that might come in handy.... I had a hand in the design of the handwheels as I saw a need for them.

I found the spanner... but no luck on the hydrant/spanner. I'll have to do that myself. I did find a nice Intake valve

Pierre, it's two spanner wrenches used to lighten and loosen hose couplings and a hydrant wrench in between used to remove the caps and turn the valve that contain 5-sided nuts.

Matt, that is AWESOME! I have several of my old departments brush trucks waiting on these! I had tried over the years to craft them by hand without much success. Your talent is INCREDIBLE!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Actually the one I modeled will doe 4 and 5 sided hydrants. I believe 4 up to 1.25 and pentagon to 1.75"

Alrighty...........

A set of 10 would run right about $10, I can put more in the set to bring down the cost. The issue is the $5 minimum per "print" Shapeways charges.

I could create a set with these and the Spine boards... Now, I'm still working on other stuff as well. The (majority of) models from Akron brass need quite a bit of work to make them printable.

Also Added, An 1/24 scale Fire Hydrant:

Up next Stokes Basket frame (I know for sure the mesh will be too fine to print)

UPDATE: Model whipped up - Shapeways says it's printable... but Unknown until first order for sure.

I'll see about the tapered one next.

The tapered Stokes is done:

Items can be found:

There's also a set that contains a pair of each style basket.

Everything looks great , would you be able to make 1/25 scale axe's in their mounts for each side of the cab ? Deck guns ?
And the big question would be what about a cab such as a E-ONEl hurricane ? Detail parts like. You are printing are very hard to come by, and even harder to make from scratch, best of luck and keep up the good work!

I've gotten some deck guns from Akron brass but haven't had a chance to check the models. Axes in mounts I should be able to do pretty easy. Cabs would be prohibitively expensive based on volume alone.

Which style? Handle brackets or head cover/ handle bracket. Horizontal or vertical?

I'm having more luck with Ground deployed Monitors... I'll need to make some mods to make them truck mounted.

Ahhah... found the deck mount adapter..

The deck gun loks very detailed! For the axes , pick and flat heads with handle clip and head holder, so they can be mounted above the fenders on the amt lafrance cabs. There would need to be right and left mounted axes. I understand the cost of the cabs, hopefully someday they will be cost effective. Other then that have you thought about scale hose couplings in various sizes and maybe some quick snap couplings for large diameter hose? Just some thoughts for you.
Have a great thanksgiving.

That monitor looks great!! Since you have an Akron catalog, how about a 4-way hydrant valve?? And intake valve for the pump panel.

It says "beta" on a few of your parts in the store, can they be ordered now or is there a wait?

Did a search on that site for other fire related stuff, depending on what scale you want they have cabs, beds and whole trucks. Neat site!

The valve models are a friggin' mess. they come in in sheets, missing small sections of the body. I'm working on them slowly. The 4-way isn't available in CAD... I might be able to do that from scratch if I can find decent models of the hose fittings.

If it's in the store, it's for sale. Now, I haven't ordered everything myself yet so some of it may not be printable. If it's there it passes the computerized check. They do a manual one (using a person to review the model) prior to printing. if something isn't printable they'll refund the cost. (I did the stokes litters in 1/35 scale as well, they passed the computer check, but failed the manual one)

Here's the "Beta" thing from shapeways:
Products in beta are in the prototyping or iterative phase of development. Mark your product as in Beta to receive feedback and support from the Shapeways community. By sharing the details about your product and design process, you can:

Build a relationship with your community
Get feedback or financial support for development of this or future products
Ask for photos and videos of your products once they've been purchased
Showcase your final designs

The Monitors are done. Sets of 2 and 4 are available. Each one comes with a pair of interchangeable nozzles (per monitor)
Would there be interest in ground bases for them??? (in stowed and/or deployed states)
